Curriculum
and Training Design:
Using experience and
knowledge in business management, leadership, and human relations, Setliff
and Associates designs entire curricula or specific training modules to
meet your goals. These designs may be classroom based, electronic/web
based, self-study, or a blended approach.
Case Study
A large government
agency needed a solution to enhancing leader-manager bench strength. Managers
with technical expertise had advanced through the ranks with little or
no management preparation. In addition, social, economic, and demographic
factors were making it difficult to hire and keep skilled managers, and
it became increasingly important that middle management be prepared with
new competencies for future demands.
Setliff and Associates
performed an organizational assessment of mid-senior management training
needs and designed an agency-focused curriculum on topics in leadership
and management. The curriculum was spread over 10 months to reduce time
away from work at any one time, emphasized project based learning, required
multiple learning methods, provided coaching for all participants on request,
and included a value-based evaluation. Setliff and Associates was asked
also to facilitate each session of each program year. The program has
been very successful, graduating a cohort of approximately 40 mangers
each year since 2000.
Facilitation:
Setliff and Associates
will facilitate planning meetings, forums, focus groups and research sessions,
training programs, and discussion groups. Our consultants bring important
skills to their facilitation work: ability to manage an audience; ability
to control time; adaptability and flexibility when processes need to be
modified; ability to develop effective agendas and manage them; credibility
and ability to inspire trust; strong skills in synthesizing information
into clear, succinct points; and an ability to ask helpful questions.
Case
Study
Three national philanthropic
organizations were co-sponsoring a new consortium to provide technical
assistance to states. The three organizations contributed different levels
of funding for the consortium, and there were differences in their approach
to how it should be managed and what its long-term goals should be. A
proposed planning meeting was likely to be difficult and only a short
amount of time was available for members of the three groups to meet.
Setliff and Associates
provided a customer needs assessment prior to the meeting and, using the
assessment results, designed a meeting agenda to discuss important issues
and develop the goals and objectives for both the first year and for three
years into the future. Using skillful diplomacy and negotiating skills,
our consultant guided the group through discussion to arrive at a preliminary
strategic plan for the new initiative. After the meeting, Setliff and
Associates provided a summary report and worked with the consortium to
draft action plans for each objective.
